help, Meniere’s diseaseMeniere’s disease typically affects those in the age range of 20-50. Attacks can come on suddenly and last anywhere from 20 minutes to as long as 4 hours. This disrupts the life of the one suffering from it, causing him or her to lose out on many opportunities. One may just have to sit or lie down until the symptoms go away. Some of the common symptoms are:

Is There Natural Relief Available for Meniere’s Disease?

No cure for Meniere’s has been found, and helping those to cope with this condition can be frustrating for doctor and patient alike. However, the field of upper cervical chiropractic care has seen great success in helping Meniere’s patients find relief.

We focus on making sure a person has proper spinal alignment, especially in the neck area. Often a misalignment here in the atlas bone (the C1 vertebra) can put pressure on the brainstem, hindering the signals being sent between the brain and body. If the brain is getting mixed signals from the cranial nerve VIII, the symptoms of Meniere’s can occur.

Research done in the medical field and by other upper cervical chiropractors has revealed that relief can be found in some patients experiencing Meniere’s by realigning the atlas bone. This is done by means of a very gentle adjustment that is tailored to the patient seeking care. Once corrected, many patients report a decrease in symptoms. Some even see this frustrating condition go away completely.

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease Vertigo is the feeling that the person or the things around him are spinning when, in fact, there is no movement at all. When the problem is related to head position, this is known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Episodes of BPPV can be short-lived and insignificant, or they can be extremely distressing causing horrible dizziness or anywhere between the two extremes. The following are typical symptoms of vertigo:

Although it is hard to predict what may trigger an episode of spinning from one person to another, it generally happens when the head is moved. This has to do with the vestibular system. This is a system of the body that regulates balance and orientation. It is partially compromised of the inner ear and its canals that are filled with fluid. If the vestibular system is malfunctioning for any reason, the brain does not get the proper signals about where the body is located in its environment. This can lead to spinning sensation.

Doctors only find a reason for vertigo in about 50% of the cases. A common link is seen with head or neck trauma and the occurrence of vertigo.

Vertigo Alleviated by Upper Cervical Chiropractic

The bones of the upper neck vertebrae are responsible for protecting the brainstem. The brainstem is vital to the body’s balancing structure. Therefore, it is extremely important for the brainstem not to be hindered. However, a misalignment of the bones of the neck, particularly the C1 and C2, can cause all kinds of problems in the body. Upper cervical chiropractors, such as myself, have been trained to find these misalignments, and we work to correct them through a gentle, precise adjustment.

A study done in 2006 included 60 people who complained of suffering from vertigo. They all received upper cervical chiropractic care, and each one of them reported seeing their vertigo either improve or go away completely. Amazingly, one person in the study had been dealing with vertigo for 37 years. That person reported being totally symptom-free after only one month of care.

This is by no means a conclusive list of causes, and some are more serious than others. You may be surprised to learn that many cases of vertigo are the result of neck trauma.

Whiplash and Vertigo

A few years ago, a study was conducted involving 139 Meniere’s patients. Each had a history of whiplash, mostly from car accidents. 136 of the patients responded to upper cervical care (3 quit the study after only 6 weeks), showing the relationship between vertigo and an upper cervical subluxation. After just 6 weeks the average intensity of patient symptoms had been reduced to a third of what it had been at the outset of the study. After two years, patients were still seeing benefits and a continued decline in symptom severity.

If you have suffered head or neck trauma and are now experiencing vertigo, let us show you what upper cervical chiropractic can do for you.

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease Often, the reason behind vertigo has to do with bacteria that causes inflammation and swelling of the vestibular nerve. This is called vestibular neuritis, also known as Labyrinthitis. The vestibular nerve is responsible for balance and for keeping your body in control. Therefore, when it is affected, it can lead to episodes of vertigo. These attacks can come on suddenly and can cause a single spinning that does not come back, a series of episodes, or a condition that can last from 3 to 6 weeks in duration.

What symptoms are associated with vestibular neuritis?

Bacteria and Vertigo

How does the ear get infected with bacteria in the first place? This may happen more easily if a person has a cold or the flu, but this is not always the case. Here are a few theories:

How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Can Help Vertigo

Upper cervical chiropractic can help vertigo patients due to the fact that a misalignment of just ¼ of a millimeter in the upper neck can lead to problems throughout the entire body, including vertigo. A misalignment here hinders communication between the brain and the body. It can also affect the nerves that connect to the ear causing them to relay improper signals about where the body is located. All of this is the perfect environment for vertigo to occur.

By using a gentle technique to produce long lasting corrections, the body can begin to heal itself using its own natural restorative properties. Once the top two bones of the neck are back in position, and the body begins functioning at its optimum once again, many patients report seeing the symptoms of vertigo decrease, and some see them dissipate entirely.

Disease, Meniere’s DiseaseMeniere’s disease is a problem of the inner ear and is known for the following combination of symptoms:

The pathways of the inner ear are lined with sensors that react to the fluid within the ear. If the amount, the pressure, or the chemicals involved are disrupted in any way, the result can be Meniere’s disease.

An exact cause for Meniere’s disease is yet to be discovered. However, the Tech Times recently published information that indicates that a cause may have been found. Studies that are being conducted in Colorado point to a connection between Meniere’s disease and other medical conditions that cause the flow of blood to be reduced to the brain, such as migraines.

Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Help Relieve Meniere’s Disease?

At Crowder Specific Chiropractic, we understand the importance of a healthy upper neck and a healthy, properly functioning body. The bones located at the top of the spine just below the skull need to be aligned properly in order for proper blood flow to enter and exit the brain. Misalignments in this area can have a huge impact on brainstem function and circulation of blood to the neck and head.

We use a unique method to analyze the neck of our patients and then correct any misalignments we may find. We do not pop or twist the spine but use a gentle technique that helps the upper neck vertebrae to realign themselves naturally. This allows them to stay in alignment longer than what is achieved with traditional chiropractic care. As a result, the body has a greater opportunity to heal.

Feeling off-balance can affect your ability to not only walk and drive, but it can also affect your quality of life during those attacks. Nausea and vomiting are common. Most people do not know that there is a difference between dizziness and vertigo.

Dizziness

In contrast, vertigo is described as a false sensation of movement. Traditional treatment of vertigo involves medication and possibly surgery, depending on the case. These may help lessen the effects of an attack in the short-term, but they do not address a potential cause of vertigo.

Your Neck and Vertigo

Your spine is designed to protect your spinal cord. Your spinal cord carries signals to and from your brain. When the top bone in your neck (atlas) is misaligned, this can create pressure within your spinal cord at the base of your neck. This can affect signals going to and from your brainstem, potentially leading to vertigo symptoms.

Here at Crowder Specific, we are trained in Upper Cervical Care, a specific chiropractic approach that detects and corrects atlas misalignments. Upper Cervical adjustments are incredibly gentle, with no popping or twisting. Through specific realignment of the atlas, pressure within the spinal cord is reduced. The brainstem is able to send and receive messages without distortion. This may lead to a reduction in vertigo symptoms.

Elster conducted an analysis of 60 patients with chronic vertigo that received specific atlas corrections. 48 out of the 60 patients received complete resolution of vertigo symptoms. All of the cases received some reduction of vertigo severity and/or frequency over the course of one to six months of atlas care. (2)
