They are put into two different categories – primary and secondary. What do these mean?

Secondary headaches can be due to such things as weather conditions, too much or too little caffeine, or injury to the head or neck. A concussion may occur if one has had a blow to the head. A concussion happens when the cerebrum – the part of the brain located at the base of the skull – collides with the skull and is bruised. Whiplash is another reason for a secondary headache. Whiplash causes the muscles of the neck to become over-extended.

Finding Natural Help for Headaches

If one has suddenly begun to have headaches, he or she may be suffering from one of the above problems. Often, when a blow to the head occurs, a misalignment simultaneously happens in the bones of the upper neck. Thus, a good place to start when trying to recover is to make an appointment to see us at our McKinney, Texas practice.

It may be surprising to learn that it only takes a tiny misalignment – ¼ of a millimeter – to wreak havoc on the body. Pressure may be placed on the brainstem. This can hinder blood and cerebrospinal fluid flow to and from the brain.  Nerves can also become damaged. All of this creates the right conditions for headaches to occur.

We use a gentle technique to help the bones move back into their original positions. Once corrected, stress is relieved from the brainstem, and proper blood flow is restored. This is often all that is needed to see headaches begin to dissipate or go away completely.
